Chapter 31: ROAD LAW

MONTHLY ROAD LAW QUESTION

In the diagram to the left, what order should vehicles proceed in ??

Correct answer is at the bottom of the page

Australia still does not have Uniform National Road Rules, there are still differences in each state...usually the devil is in the detail. If the day comes when true Uniform National Road Rules come into effect, how will the majority of road users be persuaded to obey them - very few do now.

The general attitude seems to be if I can get away with it, I will.

Speed limits are treated as minimum speeds, stops signs are rolled through and safe travelling distances are irrelevant.

Until the attitude of the majority of motorists changes towards road rules obedience, it matters little what those rules are.

ANSWER TO ROAD LAW QUESTION AT TOP OF PAGE: C, B, A

(Truck C is travelling on the through road and proceeds first, the cars are both waiting at the intersection. After C passes, car B should proceed next as it is going straight ahead and car A waits until B has gone as it is turning across the path of B. The Stop Sign and Give-way sign have little influence as both cars are stopped waiting for Truck C to proceed. Onced stopped a Stop Sign then means Give-way and both road signs cancel each other out. A STOP sign is not more controlling than a Give-way sign onced both cars have stopped.
